Zhangjiajie Tours
・7:30 AM: Start from your hotel in Zhangjiajie downtown. Take a taxi (about 30-40 mins) to the Zhangjiajie National Forest Park Main Gate (森林公园门票站). This entrance allows you to experience the beautiful valley first.
・Enter the park and begin a relaxed, flat walk along the Golden Whip Stream. This is one of the most beautiful valley walks in the world, surrounded on all sides by towering quartz-sandstone pillars.
・Highlights: Enjoy the fresh air, listen to the stream, and look for key formations like the Golden Whip Rock itself. You don't need to walk the entire length. Walk for about 1-1.5 hours until you see the sign for the Bailong Elevator.
・Take the Bailong Elevator (the "Hundred Dragons Elevator") up to the mountain summit. This 326-meter high outdoor elevator is an engineering marvel and offers stunning views as you ascend through the cliffs. (Be prepared for possible queues).
・You have now arrived at the top of the world! This is the area that inspired the "Hallelujah Mountains" in the movie Avatar.
・Follow the well-marked stone path for a loop that takes you past the most breathtaking viewpoints:
・First Bridge Under Heaven (天下第一桥): A natural rock bridge connecting two mountains.
・Avatar Hallelujah Mountain (乾坤柱): The specific pillar that became the official inspiration for the floating mountains in Avatar.
・Lost Souls Platform (迷魂台): Offers an incredible panoramic view of the pillar forest.
・Have lunch at the Yuanjiajie Tourist Service Center. There are several restaurants and food stalls here serving standard Chinese tourist meals. It's functional and saves time.
・From Yuanjiajie, take the free park shuttle bus (included in your ticket) to the Tianzi Mountain area. The ride is scenic and takes about 30-40 minutes.
・At Tianzi Mountain, head to the main viewing deck, Helong Park (贺龙公园), to enjoy a different style of landscape—peaks that resemble an "imperial court" with many subjects. The view is vast and majestic.
・Descend from Tianzi Mountain via the cable car. This is a fantastic experience, offering a long, smooth, and breathtaking ride over the deep valley and pillars.
・At the bottom of the cable car, take the shuttle bus to the Shili Gallery (Ten-Mile Gallery).
・This is a scenic valley filled with interesting rock formations. You can either walk the flat paved path (takes about 40 mins one-way) or take the tourist train (for a fee). The train provides audio commentary pointing out formations like the "Three Sisters Peak."
・From the Shili Gallery exit, take the park shuttle bus to the Wulingyuan Gate (武陵源门票站). This is a different gate from where you entered, making your route a efficient one-way journey.
・From the Wulingyuan Gate, you can easily find a taxi or a public bus to take you back to your hotel in Zhangjiajie city (about 30-40 minutes).
