If you are planning for a trip to Hanoi in Vietnam in November this year - be sure to avoid to travel during November 10-20 2006 when the APEC Summit will be held. There are 2 of the 5-star hotels that are completely blocked out during those dates. They are:
* Hotel Sofitel Metropole
* Sofitel Plaza Hanoi Hotel
While the rest (of the 5-star hotels) are also taken by delegations. Our advice would be to avoid traveling to Hanoi during those dates if you can!

Good news for those who prefer traveling by at a slower pace and enjoying more countryside view will love to travel by train rather than flying. Traveling by train in Vietnam has been basically limited and far from any convenience for international travelers until recently. The new train service between Ho Chi Minh City and the resort town of Nhatrang, said to be “luxurious” (of course, please do not compare it to the Eastern & Oriental Express train that runs between Thailand and Singapore but it is far better than the regular train within Vietnam for sure!) and will be launched some time in December 2006. There will be 10 coaches, one of them will be 5-star quality and two of 4-star quality and one of 3-star and 2 of 2-star quality. There will be 2 restaurants on board. Tickets seem reasonably cheap as they will be VND450,000 (US$28), VND330,000, VND280,000, and VND220,000 for 5-star club, deluxe, superior, and standard coaches.Source: ThanhNiên Online - August 27 2006
