Mount Po Pa, Pagan, Myanmar
Mount Popa is one of the most revered sites in this deeply religious country of Myanmar. It is the traditional home of “nats”, Burmese spirits, that have been worshipped since before the arrival of Buddhism. During the annual Popa Festival (held in May every year), a multitude of travelers ascend the mountain to pay their respect at the numerous “nat” shrines that dot the winding trail to the top of the mountain. Reaching the improbably situated monastery in the distance requires a 777-stair climb up (approximately 1500 meters above the sea leve) the conical mass - actually a volcanic plug - on which it regally perches.
Mount Popa is located some 30 miles (50 kms) east of Pagan and can be visited a fullday excursion from Pagain. OR - it can be done as a halfday excursion if you choose to an overnight trip and stay at the beautiful Mount Popa Resort.
Well - the “BEST” room to view this famous site from the hotel is “Room 805“. If you are planning to go to this resort, we strongly recommend you request this particular room. The view is absolutely devine!
