Three Massive Fireworks Shows in Bangkok - June 09-11 2006

thailandfireworks.jpgIf you will be in Bankgok during these days - do not miss the opportunity to view the 3 massive fireworks shows in honour of His Majesty the King’s 60th anniversary on the throne.

June 09 2006 - at Benjakiti Park (next to Emporium Department Store - Sukhumvit 24) during 6.00 p.m.-9.00 p.m.
The Community Support Foundation Thailand, Chinese Embassy and private sector are pulling out all the stops for the pyrotechnics show in Benjakiti Park from 6.00 p.m.- 9.00 p.m., and an orchestra will provide the musical accompaniment. China is supplying the skyrockets, which will explode in 5 series up to 200 meters overhead as images of the King are projected onto water screens. This fireworks show is said to be the grandest fireworks display ever seen in the Kingdom. The technology ensures smokeless, noiseless burst in extremely vivid colours.

June 10 2006 - at Middle of Chao Phraya River between Phra Puthayodpha Bridge and Phra Pinklao Bridge during 8.30 p.m.-9.30 p.m.
The day after His Majesty’s 60th anniversary to the throne, a second firework display will take place from 8.30 p.m. - 9.30 p.m. This time the rocketry comes from Japan, and spectators will see one continuous, 15-minute display in a a show being arranged by the Royal Army’s chemicals department. This one is said to be the newest technology from Japan and it has a brighter and sharper colours than the ordinary kind. More than 20,000 fireworks will be shown.

June 11 2006 - at Nang Leung Horse Racing Courses during 8.30 p.m.-9.30 p.m.
The third airbourne spectacular is planned with the highlight being the number 60 spelled out in both Thai and Arabic numerals. The Muang Thong Seiko Company is putting on this show, featuring some 1,010 rockets.

All three fireworks shows are free and will be televised as well.

Bangkok Roads to be closed for Royal Celebrations during June 08-13 2006

Those of you who will be in Bangkok during this time - please be informed accordingly.

Some major downtown roads and adjoining neighbourhoods will be closed before and during the 60th anniversary celebrations of the King’s accession to the throne, traffic police said.

No vehicles will be allowed on designated roads or to enter nearby areas from June 08-13. These will be both lanes of Uthong Nai Road, the entire Royal Plaza of Dusit Palace and both lanes of Si Ayuthaya Road from the Royal Plaza intersection to the 1st Division of the King’s Guard intersection. As well, two lanes of Ratchadamnoen Nok Avenue, from the Royal Plaza intersection to Makawan Bridge, will be inaccessible. Cars will also be barred from both lanes of Phitsanuloke Road, from Suan Misakawan interesection to Wang Daeng intersection.

On June 09, five desinated roads and nearby areas will be off-limits from 6.00 a.m. - 1.00 p.m.

On June 12, the same roads will be closed from noon to 6.00 p.m. 

From June 11-14, areas near hotels in which royal guests and heads of state will be in residence, such as Shangri-La Hotel, Oriental Hotel, Sukhothai Hotel will be closed. To facilitate the entourage of Their Majesties the King and Queen and their royal guets to observe the Royal Barge Procession at the Royal Navy Institute (Ratchanavik Sapa), New Arun Amarin road from Siriraj interesection to Anutinsawat Bridge and Wang Derm Road to the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall will be closed to traffic on June 12 from 2.00 p.m. to midnight. The same day, Maharat Road, Phra Chan Road, Na Phra Lan Road and Thai Wang Road will be closed from 3.00 p.m.-9.00 p.m. On June 13, Maharat Road, Thai Wang Road, Sanam Chai Road, Ratchadamnoen Nai Avenue, Na Phra That Road, Na Phra Lan Road and Phra Chan Road will be off-limits to all motor vehicles from 4.00 p.m.-midnight. During June 12-13, no vehicles will be permitted to park throughout the daytime or at night on either Ratchadamneon Klang avenue or Ratchadamneon Nai Avenue. (Source from Bangkok Post, June 04 2006)
