Time for Thai Tulips : June - August - Chaiyaphum, Thailand

It is bloom time for the wild curcuma or “Krachieo” flower native to the northeast province of Chaiyaphum, and the best place to view them is Pa Hin Ngam National Park where the landscape is strewn with boulders interspersed with the sight of pinkish-purple flowers laid out li carpet in every direction. The flower, all called “Pathumma” and “Bua Sawan (heavenly lotus)”, is the Thai equivalent of tulip and comes to life at the start of the rainy season drawing visitors to the park starting June until well into the month of August. The flower’s shape, bright color and lasting quality endears it appeal making it a popular choice for flower ornaments and decorations not only in Thailand but also overseas.

Pa Hin Ngam means a forest full of beautiful rocks. It spreads over 10 square kilometers of stunning sandstone rocks beaten into bizaare shapes by natural elements over thousands of years. As a result they bear names such as castle, nail or elephant rock. Apart from the rock formations, Chaiyaphum also has its share of spectacular waterfalls such as Tat Ton and Pha Eang, the Tum Kaew cave and other natural attractions.
